______1983-1984 TRADE-FAIR PALACE

In 1979 a disastrous fire destroyed this Functionalist building,in the late 1920s pride of free Czechoslovakia and of its industrial and trade potential. In the rather long period, before this phoenix once more rose from its ashes and became the home of the National Gallery’s Collection of Modern Art, the building hosted a tailor-made project. The bare structure of concrete pillars and beams evoked an oversized cage - in consequence iron-rod cages were the core of objects, which combined sculptures, photographs and nudes in many actions, including the artist’s unplanned boxing match. Despite highly professional preparations nothing could undermine the project’s spontaneity - neither the drawings, which carefully prepared the whole project, a combination of theatre and visual art, nor its meticulous recording.
