______1980-1989 MY MOTHER’S DAYS AND YEARS

Mothers of artists are an exceptionally interesting subject in art history and, more generally, in the history of culture. Famous painters regularly turned to stylized portraits of their mothers as symbols of intimity, security and its loss. In the 1980s this motif dominated Jiří Sozanský’s art, to some exent connected with visits of his lonely mother. The drawings, interpretations of her portraits in large variants, discreetly indicated with fading lines and surfaces the slow extinction and departure, while also evoking the atmosphere of the closed world of a small flat in an appartment house with the ever-present flickering of a TV screen.
